For more than 200 years now, George Washington has been referred to as “The Father Of Our Country,” I suppose because he was the first person to serve as the President of the United States (or POTUS, as the office is now called by some). I have no idea what kind of “father” George Washington would be - what personal qualities he had to inspire his “kids.” If it was indeed true that he “never told a lie,” that would certainly be a wonderful father-like quality. ...

WEST BEND - The Alta Aurelia boys won a Twin Lakes Conference golf quadrangular meet here on Thursday, totaling 183 team strokes to runner-up Pocahontas Area’s 191. West Bend-Mallard finished 3rd (203) and Storm Lake St. Mary’s was 4th (251). Alta-Aurelia’s Alex Snyder was meet medalist, winning in a playoff after posting a 41. City of Cherokee advances $481,000 Street Project

The Cherokee City Council last week approved a series of Resolutuons continuing the process for the proposed 2018 City Street Improvement Project. The total project cost is estimated to be $480,958, of which $142,847.77 is assessable to adjacent property owners for new curb and gutter. Preliminary assessments are figured at $67.22 per linear foot of street frontage. Assessments will range from $2,924.32 to $11,428.36 per property...
