A-A boys atop TLC Track Meet when cancelled

POCAHONTAS - The Twin Lakes Conference attempted to stage its annual Conference track meet here Tuesday, but only nine of 19 events were completed before the stormy weather brought a halt to the proceedings - as it has so many times this spring. The Alta-Aurelia boys were in the team lead after Tuesday’s events, and the Warriors were halfway to Pocahontas Thursday for the conclusion of the meet when bad weather hit again and the meet was cancelled. ...

The Alta-Aurelia Trap team hosted a trap shoot on Saturday April 28th. Teams competing were Alta-Aurelia, Storm Lake, Okoboji. GTRA and Sioux City. Braves’ teams compete at Rainy Lakes Conference Track Meet

SPIRIT LAKE - The Lakes Conference held its Conference Track Meet here Thursday on a drizzly day, when It didn't stop raining until the last couple of events. The Cherokee girls finished 6th in the Team Standings and were able to come away with one conference championship, with Bri Sleezer winning the 400 meters in 1:02.80, making her a two-time conference champ in that event. The Braves finished second in the 800 Sprint Medley (1:57.28) and third in the 4x100 ( 54.67) with the quartet of Megan Brown, JeMae Nichols, Kassidy Pingel and Sleezer running in both events, and the Cherokee team had a couple of season bests, even with the rain. . ...

Brenda Backman, the Artist of the Month at the Thiel Sanford Museum in Cherokee, has been making art and stitching since she was twelve years old when she started making her own needlepoint designs., and she says she’s been “hooked ever since.” Backman graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000 and began her professional art career then.
