Cherokee’s Matt Koch has been recalled by the Arizona Diamondbacks, and he pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the D’backs loss to Colorado on Thursday. While assigned to Class AAA Reno, Nevada, Koch started four games, hurling 25 innings and allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 20 hits, walking seven, striking out 14, hitting one batter, and giving up four home runs. At last week’s Cherokee City Council meeting, Mayor Craig Schmidt read a proclamation honoring Martin A. Treptow and declaring July 28, 2018, as "Martin A. Treptow Day. " Treptow was born in Bloomer, Wisconsin, and also resided in Cherokee, where he worked as a barber. On July 28, 1918, he was killed in action in France during WWI.
