The Cherokee Trail Committee is excited to announce that the City of Cherokee has been awarded a grant of $100,000 for the Trail Expansion Project from Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP). Jason Cook, Chairman of the Trail Committee, said “REAP grants are very competitive across the State of Iowa and for Cherokee to be awarded the maximum grant on our first request is phenomenal! This is a great boost to our community’s fundraising efforts for the trail expansion.”...

The new Cherokee Regional Clinic building opened for patient care on Monday, the culmination of extensive planning, followed by 19 months of construction with a price tag of over $5 million. The new facility encompasses approximately 15,000 square foot modern medical clinic designed to better accommodate the clinical health care needs of area residents and their families...

The dedicated members of Friends of the Library are ready for the 19th annual Book Basket Project. Area library supporters have been bringing in their basket projects for the Friends to wrap, but there is still time to bring a book basket in! The Cherokee Public Library’s Spooktacular drew a large crowd! Participants decorated pumpkins, enjoyed cookies and warm cider, made spooky crafts, and toured scenic Spring Lake Park on a hayride. MidAmerican Energy has proposed an additional investment of $922 million for its Wind XII project expected to be completed in late 2020 “somewhere in Iowa.” Over the past three years, MidAmerican Energy has moved forward with its Wind XI project, that when combined with Wind XII, will provide customers with 100 percent renewable energy on an annual basis. LEMARS - It wasn’t for lack of effort or loyal fan support. Cherokee’s 3-2 Class 2A Region 2 final loss to Unity Christian here Tuesday night was a battle from start to finish.
