At Tuesday’s brief Cherokee City Council meeting, City Administrator Eric List discussed two quotes received for applying an overlay to the floor on the lower level of the Community Center. The original tile has been removed, the concrete floor patched, and a sealant applied. However, imperfections in the concrete are visible. Wayne “Wit” Whitmore (Obituary ~ 06/28/19)
Wayne Aurthur Whitmore, 86, of Aurelia, died on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the Buena Vista Reginal Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa. It was Wayne’s wish to be cremated. No services are planned at this time. Wayne was born on July 10, 1932 in Sheldon, Iowa the son of Earl and Belle (Hindt) Whitmore. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 1951. Wayne joined the United States Navy in 1952 where he served until 1960 when he was honorably discharged. On September 15, 1956 Wayne was united in marrage to Beverly Ann Steffens in Primgar, Iowa. After his discharge Wayne worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 34 years, retiring in 1991. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring cars, making popcorn to take to ball games, the bank, and doctors appointments, and tinkering in his garage.. ... -

LeMars teams played solid defense and chartered a clean sweep over Cherokee softball and baseball teams here Wednesday evening. LeMars won the girls’ tilt 6-4, while the Bulldogs captured the boys’ contest by an 11-7 score. In the bottom of the seventh inning of the girls’ game, Cherokee had two runners on base and LeMars squelched the rally with two defensive catches of hard hit drives by Cherokee sisters Payton and Teagan Slaughter to end the game...
