A team of educators have partnered with Hy-Vee to create the Braves Food Pantry to help better serve our student population. Cherokee Community School District has a 40% free and reduced population for school lunch and the high school’s percentage is 34%. WITCC TRIO-Student the Month Award (Local News ~ 10/02/19)
Beau & Amy Rose of Larrabee have received the WITCC TRIO-Student Support Services Achievers of the Month Award for October. This award recognizes Western Iowa Tech TRIO students for demonstrating qualities of leadership and citizenship while achieving collegiate academic success. This couple does a great job supporting each other as they pursue their academic programs at WIT Cherokee Campus. Since joining the TRIO program, Beau and Amy have taken advantage of many of the campus visits and cultural trips offered including visiting the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Buena Vista University & attending the Winnebago Pow Wow and Clay County Fair. Through a combination of traditional and online classes, both are working towards graduating with their Associate of Arts degrees. The Christian Action Program (CAP) food pantry wishes to thank all those in the community of Cherokee that donated to our food drive Sept.25th. Youth from Immaculate Conception Parish and adult chaperones collected almost 2,000 food items and several cash donations to help refill the shelves at the food pantry which serves Cherokee County. We have less time to drive the neighborhoods now, so we hope we didn’t miss too many places that were expecting us. Your donations may be dropped off any time at Immaculate Conception food pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:00 and 2:00.
