Council denies water bill reduction ‘Urban’ chickens now allowed

At last week’s Cherokee City Council meeting, Debbie Nelson, acting president of the Cherokee Daycare at 400 N. Roosevelt Ave., requested the Council reduce their utility bill for the time period April 16 to May 18, 2020. While the facility was closed during this time period due to the COVID-19 pandemic a toilet was running, resulting in water consumption of 78,200 cubic feet and a bill for this time period in the amount of $6,337.96. ...

The Cherokee School District and all schools today wrestle with the “right” thing to do regarding students faltering or falling through the cracks during the lengthy school closures due to the pandemic. For many students and their parents, the virtual online teaching supplanting face-to-face in-school education sufficed as they and their teachers struggled through the uncontrolled maze with a modicum of success. ...
