It case you hadn't noticed, the second month of the year is slowly counting down...and even though good old Punxutawney Phil saw his shadow and disappeared right back down his hole, spring is definitely somewhere just over the horizon.
In the classrooms, those old season-marking brainbusters better known as final tests, have all been polished off, leaving the area's students with a brand new school semester.
On the bright side, the writers' cramps from all those essay questions are alleviated somewhat as the powers-that-be give three groundhog growls and a couple of valentine volleys for Megan Holbrook as she accepts the honors as River Valley Elementary's February Reader of the Month.
During the school day, this charming young reader can be found astutely studying at her desk in the kindergarten classroom at the RV Elementary School.
During her academic day, Megan enjoys nothing better than wrapping her tonsils around a good song. That's why it should come as no surprise that Music holds down the top spot on this young divas list of top subjects and that Mrs. Knaack rates as her favorite teacher.
Megan enjoys each and every one of her frequent visits to the library. She particularly likes the wide variety of books on the shelves just waiting to be carted home and read.
As far as her own preferred reading list is concerned, Megan is a die hard fan of the Clifford series of books and seldom passes up an opportunity to peruse one of the big red dog's tales.
When her hard-studying day in the kindergarten classroom comes to an end, Megan has absolutely no problem keeping herself entertained after parking her text books.
She enjoys both twirling the baton and booting around the soccer ball and is also an active participant in her church's Awanas club.
As far as her future plans are concerned, this February reader has her sights set on becoming a teacher some day.
Since high school, college and the world of academia is still quite a way down the pike, in the meantime Megan Holbrook can be found at her home on Fifth Street in Correctionville where she resides with her folks...John and Jenni, her big sister eight-year-old Allison and Angel and Blackie, the family cats.
