DES MOINES - Cherokee Chronicle Times editor/associate publisher, and former sports editor, Paul Struck, is a 2005 recipient of the News Media Award presented annually by the Board of Control of the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

The annual award is bestowed upon members of the news media who have contributed greatly through the years to the success of the Iowa high school intersholastic athletic progam.

Struck, a veteran sportswriter and news editor for the former Cherokee Daily Times, and former co-owner of The Cherokee Chronicle, which merged with the Daily Times to form the Chronicle Times in March of 2002, will be presented his award Friday, March 18, during halftime of the Class 1A Boys State Basketball Tournament championship game, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

A graduate of Storm Lake St. Mary's High School and Buena Vista College (University), Struck also worked three years as news editor with the Sioux City Journal.

His popular "Struck Strikes Out" sports column has chronicled the highs and lows, laughter and tears of youth, prep, collegiate and professional athletics for more than 25 years.

In 2003, Struck was named Sports Media Person of The Year by the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association.
