With the recent balmy weather hopefully creating a jump start for spring, over at the northwestern end of the county, it's three cheers and a tip of the leprechaun's lid for Ben Hueser as he accepts the mantle as the Cleghorn Library's March Reader of the Month.
On any given school day, Ben can be found polishing off the three "R's" at his desk in the fifth grade classroom at Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Middle School.
This reader states that he likes and admires all his teachers equally well, but adds, however, that Social Studies is his top subject when it comes to his fifth grade studies.
Ben is an avid reader who seldom passes up an opportunity to drop in at the library.
Books, books, and more books, he claims, are the reasons behind all those return visits.
Ben's taste in reading material plainly leans towards the Adventure genre with Gary Polson winning out as his favorite author.
Besides being a super reader, Ben has a whole lot of other activities and interests that keep his free time hours quite occupied.
As an athlete for all seasons, he enjoys playing baseball, football and basketball.
Helping his dad out on the old homestead also remains one of this farm kid's preferred activities.
With that farm upbringing, it will come as no surprise to learn that Ben is a member in good standing in the Tilden Tillers 4H Club and can often be found at fairs and club sponsored events showing calves he has raised.
Other favorite extracurricular activities for this young fellow include riding four-wheelers, hunting, trapping and woodworking with his grandfather.
As far as his future plans are concerned, Ben is even now setting his sights on a career as an electrical engineer.
However, until the day arrives for him to put a little spark in his life, Ben Hueser can be found at his home over on E. Avenue.
His parents are Joe Hueser and Lisa Caveman.
He also has a kid brother..seven-year-old Sam.
