The recent series of articles detailing the history and on-going changes at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee as it transitions into the future of regional health care with an enhanced identity and compelling new image, will culminate with an article concerning Monday night's SVMH Annual Meeting.
The first article in the series detailed the changes SVMH has gone through over the last 89 years, the second article addressed the efforts at forming multiple focus groups to study the current brand and image of SVMH, and the third followed the trends in today's health care and what lies ahead for this industry so vital to mankind.
The steady growth and expansion of SVMH, including the total renovation of most hospital departments; the addition of new high-tech equipment, services, educational and specialty clinics; and the construction of the True Medical Building, Wellness Center, and The Beck for senior housing on the SVMH grounds, has the hospital charging into the future as a total "health care campus."
Along with this incredible progress, the SVMH Board of Directors, CEO John Comstock, and Marketing Director Karmen Vanfossan, have charted a course to examine the current image of the hospital.
To be as thorough as possible, 17 special focus groups involving 149 people were formed seeking input from throughout the community. Among those groups were the medical staff, 12 employee focus groups, past board members, the Auxiliary, and community business people.
After much discussion and sharing of information, a vast majority of the focus groups agreed that perhaps a change in the current and long-standing name, logo and positioning statement of the "Cherokee hospital" was long overdue. Since then, SVMH officials have been researching such a possibility.
All members of the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital Association are encouraged to attend the SVMH Annual Meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the Education Room, located next to the Cafeteria.
There will be reports from the Auxiliary, Medical Staff, Treasurer, Board Chair, and CEO Comstock. An annual report also will be distributed highlighting events, accomplishments, statistics, and other information concerning Year 2004.
