Many special, entertaining, significant events are on tap for the 2005 Cherokee PRCA Rodeo scheduled at the Cherokee Fair Grounds Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 2-3-4.
Produced bythe nationally renowned Bob and Donita Barnes family and the Barnes/MJM Rodeo of Cherokee and Peterson, rodeo performances are scheduled at 7:30 o'clock each night, with several other community events in the three-day mix to promise visitors a full stable of fun and excitement annually associated with the Cherokee PRCA Rodeo.
Special events occurring at the rodeo performances include "Family Night" on Thursday (June 2), the famous White Horse Mounted Patrol on Friday (June 3), and a Star-Spangled Salute and miniature bucking bulls at Saturday's (June 4) performance.
Of course, the huge Cherokee PRCA Rodeo Parade will again take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, on U.S. Highway 59 from Washington High School south to the Fair Grounds.
From 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fair Grounds, will be the Miss Rodeo Cherokee Horsemanship Competition. From 5:30-7 p.m. will be Family Fun Night, with free pony rides, a petting zoo, and games and attractions. At 6 p.m. will be Mutton Bustin', Bitty Barrell Racing, and Justin Boot Race.
At 9:30 a.m. Friday, the Chamber of Commerce and Rodeo Committee will host the Friday morning coffee at La Grande Hacienda, with Miss Rodeo Queen Speech and Modeling to follow. The annual Queens' Luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bits & Pieces, including Miss Rodeo Iowa and other Rodeo Queens. At 5:30 p.m. Friday will be a special appearance of the White Horse Mounted Patrol.
Saturday kicks off with the Western BBQ from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the historic, renovated Cherokee Railroad Depot. The Parade is at 4 p.m. and the Miniature Buckin' Bulls will be at 6 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the Miss Rodeo Cherokee Coronation will take place, and a special tribute to the Armed Forces will be at 6:45 p.m. Arrival of the American Flag will be at 7 p.m.
Advance ticket prices for Thursday and Friday performances are $8 for adult and $4 for chidren age 12 and under. Tickets for Saturday's performance are $10 adult and $5 children age 12 and under.
This year's event sponsors are Bareback Riding, Chronicle Times; Calf Roping, McDonald's; Saddle Bronc, KCHE; Barrell Racing, State Farm; Bull Riding, Valley Pharmacy.
Chute gate sponsors include Holzhauer Motors, Central Bank, RJ Thomas Manufacturing Inc.; Hy-Vee Foods and DrugTown; Bomgaars/Wrangler; and Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital.
Gate sponsors are barrel racing, Cherokee Lumber; calf gate, Colorlyne Directory; steer gate, Iowa Telecom; grand entry gate, Dodge; catch pen, Cherokee State Bank.
The sponsors for the Thursday night performance are SVMH, KTIV TV, and KCHE. Friday's sponsors are the Chamber of Commerce, KCAU TV, and 92.9 The Moose. Saturday's sponsors are KSUX, Tyson Deli, Siouxland Seeds, and First Coop Association.
