In case you hadn't noticed, summer is looming just over the horizon and the 2004-05 school year is rapidly fading away into the history book.
Before that final school bell rings, however, there is time for three cheers and one last sizzling spring salute for Brett Barritt as he accepts the nod as Roosevelt's May Reader of the Month.
Brett is just in the process of wrapping up his tenure as a member of the first grade class at Roosevelt Elementary.
Although he admits to not having a favorite subject, he does consider Mrs. Boekout pretty darned great when it comes to teachers.
Roosevelt's May reader enjoys nothing better during a school day than wandering down the hall to visit the library. He especially likes the fact that the library's shelves are filled to the sagging point with a wide and exciting variety of books.
Brett also enjoys kicking back and listening to the librarians read a good story aloud.
It should be noted that he does have a favorite book, a rousing adventure titled "Lost in the Woods."
Whenever some quality recreation time comes down the pike, this pint-sized peruser wastes little time in parking his latest book before diving into one of his many favorite pastimes.
He loves knocking the ball around out on the golf course, risking life and limb jumping on the trampoline and collecting Hot Wheels with his dad.
In a addition, Brett is an active member of the Sunday School class at his family's church, St. Paul's United Methodist.
As far as the future is concerned, this is one reader who has his eyes on the skies. He hopes to "design airplanes" when he grows up.
Until it's time for him to invent that new jet propulsion system, however, Brett Barritt can be found over on Sumner Street where he shares the home hanger with his folks...Jay and Aimee, his siblings..five-year-old Jennifer and 16-year-old Nick and one crazy cat named "Sparks."
