With the 2004-05 school year now ancient history, it's time to mark the season by participating in a whole lot of summer-type of activities.
You know...those pastimes like summer ball, swimming sessions, picnics and vegging out down at a favorite fishing hole.
Down at the southern end of the county, there's also an added seasonal celebration with the news that Halle Still has been named as River Valley Elementary's June Reader of the Month.
Halle is now a veteran scholar who has just successfully completed the second grade. Although she enjoyed all her subjects equally this past school year, she does admit that Mrs. Hansen ranked right at the top on her list of favorite teachers.
This young reader was a mighty familiar face around the RV library during these past school days. She particularly enjoyed storytime when Librarian Bonnie would read a good tale aloud.
As far as her own preferred reading list is concerned, Halle notes that she is a big fan of the Dr. Seuss books and can often be found perusing one of the prolific penman's tales.
It should be noted that Halle, an avid reader, is not exactly a bookworm. She has a tendency to get athletic on occasion, which is evidenced by the fact that playing both football and softball are on her favorite-things-to-do chart.
It's also pretty obvious that this young lady is a proponent of the performing arts. She can often be found warbling a song or kicking up her heels in a couple of intricate choreographed quick steps.
With this interest in music, it will come as no surprise that Halle's plans for the future hopefully includes pursuing a career as either a singer or dancer.
Until it comes time for her to knock them dead on American Idol, however, Halle Still can be found at her home over on 165th Street in Cushing where she shares the center spotlight with her parents...Jason and Chris, her kid brother...six-year-old Alec and a menagerie that includes dogs, sheep and four cats.
