There were numerous personnel matters taken care of Monday evening by the Cherokee School Board.

The board approved the resignations of Evelyn Lundell as play director; Lisa Wiese as third grade teacher; Christine Patterson as middle school family consumer science teacher; Denny Taylor as assistant girls' track coach; Kim Johnson as assistant softball coach; and Lynn Rochelle Williams as high school secretary.

The board approved contracts for Carl Higgins as elementary special education teacher; and special olympics coach; Margaret Mishler as middle school family consumer science teacher for first semester and assistant girls' basketball coach; Travis Schueller as eighth grade girls' track; Mollie Loughlin as director of the Children's Theater, spring play; Tara Malausky as assistant volleyball coach; Sherry Miller as ninth grade volleyball coach; Deb Hankens and Jolleen Hunecke as Drug Free Lifestyle sponsors; Neil Phipps and Tony Napierala as assistant girls' track coaches.

The board also approved transfers of Curt Klaahsen from eighth grade girls' track to seventh grade girls' track coach; Kim Miller from kindergarten teacher to third grade teacher; Jaylene DeVos from assistant group speech director to head individual speech director.

The board approved 10 days compensation for Marlin Lode's unused vacation.

Laurie Gerstandt, board president, noted that the general policy about vacation is "use it or lose it" but since Lode, the outgoing superintendent, had agreed to stay through the conclusion of his employment at the end of this month to help with the transition, an exception should be made in his case.
