In case you haven't glanced at your calendar lately, summer is now at its midpoint.
Pessimists are even now bemoaning the fact that the new school year is just weeks away.
Optimists, on the other hand, happily note that there is still a month of sun remaining before the summer comes to an end.
With this in mind, the powers-that-be over at the northwestern end of the county have further celebrated the season with three cheers and a firecracker fusillade for Chris Coolbaugh, the Cleghorn Library's July Reader of the Month.
This past school year found Chris deftly handling his studies in the eighth grade as he put the final touches to his middle school years at Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.
Science, this reader notes, was his top subject this past year. He also adds that Mr. Chapman was a regular Mr. Wizard and held down the top spot on his list of favorite teachers.
As a result of hanging in there academically, Chris will be moving up to the big time this coming fall as he enters high school.
Chris is regular visitor at the Cleghorn library. He particularly enjoys the wide variety of books and other types of reading material he can always count on discovering on the library's shelves.
As far as his own preferred reading list is concerned, Cleghorn's July reader confesses to being big time whodunit fan and seldom passes up an opportunity to peruse a mystery.
He especially enjoys the Artemis Fowl series penned by Eoin Colfer.
When that latest mystery is solved and there's no homework on the back burner, Chris wastes little time in diving into one of his favorite pastimes, a list that includes competing in Track, shooting up the competition in Paintball and playing video games.
As far as his future is concerned, Chris has his eye on the sky and hopes to work at NASA someday.
Until the day arrives for him to boldly go where no man has gone before, however, Chris Coolbaugh can be found over on C Avenue in rural Marcus where he shares the launching pad with his folks...David and Melissa and his kid sister 12-year-old Rachel.
