Now and Again: Apparently I need more ambition

Monday, September 12, 2005

Apparently I need more ambition. I need more ambition to care for our three children while my husband busts his ambition 50 hours or more a week out of town to make as much money as he can before the layoff season arrives. I need more ambition to make up hours absent from work to care for a vomiting six year old.

I need more ambition to work two sideline jobs to make extra money to pay bills. I need more ambition to volunteer for Cub Scouts, organizing parents and activities.

I need more ambition to wash the twelve loads of laundry waiting for me every week. I need more ambition to deal with a nine year old attitude every night. I need more ambition to convince my daughter to comb her hair every morning. I need more ambition to help my learning disabled child more. I need more ambition to cook for the pickiest bunch of eaters on the planet.

I need more ambition to get myself some exercise. I need more ambition to pay for the two new tires my car now needs so I can continue my coverage of ambitious stories. I need more ambition to put up with cranky people. I need more ambition to stick up for myself. We all need more ambition to get equal pay for equal work.

I need more ambition to enjoy life. I need more ambition to complete the final phase of remodeling my house. I need more ambition to figure out how we are going to pay for Christmas this year and the medical bills racked up this summer.

I need more ambition to take a real vacation with my family. I need more ambition to find what my real ambition might be. I need more ambition to be the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. I need more ambition to work on my yard. I need more ambition to generally clean my house. I need more ambition to say no. I need more ambition to say yes. I need more ambition to spend time with my husband. I need more ambition to visit my only sister. I need more ambition to visit my mom. I need more ambition to live paycheck to paycheck. And finally, I just need more money (oh, I mean ambition).
