An exciting new program involving an associate of arts degree for working adults wishing to advance their education and careers will soon be available at the Cherokee Campus of Western Iowa Tech Community College.
Informational meetings will be held at 6 p.m. tonight and again on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the Cherokee WITCC facility.
The program is specifically designed to the needs of working adults, with all classes taking place from 6-10 p.m. on Wednesdays. Enrollment is limited to about 20 students per session and the program is scheduled to begin in January, 2006. Students can expect to graduate in the summer of 2008. Credits earned at other institutions, or previously earned at WITCC, may apply towards the degree. Credits earned earned through the program are transferable to a baccalaureate program at most four-year colleges and universities.
Students also have the option of choosing an associate of arts degree in either Business Administration or Education, with either track serving as general education courses for most bachelor's degrees.
The program is tailored for highly motivated adults, minimum age 21, who are currently employed or have an employment history of at least three years, including stay-at-home moms.
The courses offered are a blend of online technology and face-to-face classroom instruction (Wednesday nights). Students in the program take their course work in a concentrated format one class at a time.
Most of the program classes are five weeks long, with the exception of mathematics, accounting, and science, which are six weeks in length.
The program includes free academic tutoring and students can test out of a course in accordance with WITCC guidelines.

Students should expect to spend approximately 10-20 plus hours per week doing homework in this accelerated format designed for the working adult.
WITCC also stands ready to assist students in establishing and adapting their home computers to accomodate the online portion of the program, including proper software and related instruction.

The Working Adult Associate of Arts degree also has a unique pricing structure, with the cost of each course a fixed price. The cost is per course and not per hour, with the rate guaranteed for two years.
The rate for the 2005-2007 program is $395 per class, with book costs estimated at $30 per credit hour.
Students also are eligible for any employer provided education benefits, and federal student aid programs.
The program, already under way at the Sioux City Campus, is being offered at the Cherokee, Denison and Le Mars campuses.
