At the Monday evening meeting, the River Valley School Board approved the calendar for the 2006/07 school year.
The first day of classes is on Aug. 22 preceded by three days of staff in service. The last day of classes is on May 23 with an in service day to follow. Seniors end school the previous week and have graduation ceremonies on May 20.
Snow make up days are added on to the end of the school year.
Semesters are of equal length, 90 days each, and the first semester ends on Jan. 10.
The last day of school before Christmas break is on Thursday, Dec. 21, with vacation lasting from Friday, Dec. 22 through Tuesday, Jan. 2. Classes resume on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Other week days without school include Monday, Sept. 4 (Labor Day); Wednesday, Sept. 13 (in service); Wednesday, Oct. 25 (in service); Friday, Nov. 10 (parent teacher conference comp day); Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23-24 (Thanksgiving); Monday, Jan. 15 (in service); Monday, Feb. 19 (President's Day); Monday, March 19 (in service); Friday, March 30 (parent teacher conference comp day); Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9 (spring break).
Early dismissals (1:30 p.m.) for staff development will take place on one Wednesday a month during the school year except January. These will be Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 15, Dec. 13, Feb. 14, March 14, April 11 and May 9.
In other action, the board approved the resignation of Bill Mathers as boys' golf coach and approved a contract for Matt Jenness as boys' golf coach.
