The Cherokee Community Theater will present their production of Sir Noel Coward's timeless comedy "Blithe Spirit" on the weekends of March 10-12 and March 17-19. The play first opened on Broadway in 1942, and was an immediate
smash. Here is a brief summary of the play's story:
To get background for a new book, an author and his second wife light-heartedly arrange for local mystic Madame Arcati to give a sťance. The unfortunate result is that the author's first wife returns from beyond the grave to make his life miserable. The second wife also gets increasingly irritated with her supernatural rival, and Madame Arcati is at her wit's end as to how to sort things out.
Cast members of "Blithe Spirit" include leads David Zelle, Lisa Hunter and Jennifer Bechtel, ably supported by Janet Brown, Ben Cox, Penny Pingray, and Kara Klingborg. Cox is in his first production at Cherokee, and Brown is in her first featured part. Jacqueline Courtright is directing.
The March 10 performance, at 7:30 at the Community Center, will be preceded by a dinner from 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. This will be an Italian buffet , to include seafood fettucine romaine with raspberry vinaigrette and walnuts. Tiramisu will be the dessert. Dinner is optional, but if you do eat, there is an $8 charge, in addition to the $7 admission for the performance. Season ticket holders will also pay the $8 for the dinner in addition to their season ticket admission for the performance.
The March 11 performance will have the same dinner and showtimes as the previous evening, but a different menu for the dinner. Stuffed chicken breast with orzo pilaf, brandied peach pork, mandarin almond tossed salad, french bread, and apple rum cake will be available on Saturday.
Sunday, March 12, is a matinee performance at 2 p.m., and there is no dinner involved.
The second weekend will have the same times as the first week for all performances, and also the same menus. On Sunday, the 19th, however, the Theater will be trying a Sunday afternoon dinner for the first time. The meal, again optional, will be servd from 12:30 - 1:45 P.M. The menu for this meal will be roast beef, ham balls, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans almondine, corn, buttery crescents, and apple rum cake.
