DES MOINES - Former Cherokee basketball standout Tammi Blackstone has been named to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Basketball Hall of Fame. Blackstone is one of just two new inductees this year, sharing honors with Lindsey Meder of Solon.
The 1996 Washington High graduate was a two-time first-team All-Stater and three-time All-Lakes Conference performer, and played collegiately at Drake University. She will be one of the few members of the Iowa Girls Hall of Fame who never played in the State Tournament.
Blackstone, who is now a practicing attorney in Des Moines, was honored, along with her fellow inductee, at halftime of the second game on Saturday night.
While at Drake, the 6-4 Blackstone was a member of the Bulldogs' Missouri Valley Conference championship teams in 1997, 1998, and 2000.
She was MVC Freshman of the Year in 1997, a first team MVC pick in 1998 and 1999, All-Tournament NIT selection in 1999, and an honorable mention Kodak All-American in 1999. She also was voted second team MVC Scholar-Athlete in 1998, and first team in 1999.
