The Cherokee School Board addressed three personnel matters at the Monday evening meeting.
The board accepted the resignation of Randi Kent as high school vocal instructor. She is getting married this summer and will be moving to the Minneapolis, St. Paul area.
The board also accepted the resignation of Robert Leach as bus driver and food service driver.
The board approved the hiring of Dan Kratz as assistant varsity girl's tennis coach. It was explained that whenever the tennis program exceeds 25 girls, an assistant coach is needed.
The board authorized the superintendent and business manager to approve refinancing the bond debt any time over the next 18 months if interest rates make it worth doing so. It was noted that the current interest rates are not favorable for refinancing the bond debt.
The board approved levying for the budget guarantee allowed by the state to recover part of what is lost in the per pupil funding formula because of declining enrollment.
At one time, districts had a 100 percent guarantee, enabling them to receive at least the same amount for the general fund budget as in the previous year even though enrollment declines. A few years back, the state started phasing out the guarantee. It was 80 percent for the present year and will be 70 percent for next year.
The next board meeting will be on April 10, the second Monday of the month rather than the usual third Monday because of requirements as far as sending in the district's budget.
