The Cherokee School Board approved the purchase of a Bluebird school bus for $76,312 minus a trade in of $800 for a 1988 bus,
The matter was hurriedly added to the agenda of the Monday management team meeting in order to take advantage of a first come first serve offer for the last bus of the current year on the lot.
Usually, action items are reserved for the regular board meeting on the third Monday of the month while the management team meeting of board members and administrators on the first Monday of every other month is for informational matters. However, Mike Wiederholdt, transportation director had cautioned the board that bus costs will go up considerably by this fall because of changing emission standards.
He predicted that the cost of a new bus would probably be about $83,000 if the board did not obtain the one offered.
