A Washta woman died as the result of a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday morning in Quimby, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Ruth Ann Petty, 78, Washta, was killed in the accident at the intersection of Highway 31 and L-51 in Quimby.
At about 8 a.m., Petty, driving north on L-51 had reportedly stopped at a stop sign and then proceeded north, failing to yield to oncoming traffic. An east bound vehicle, driven by James Robert Steffen, 48, Washta, collided with the Petty vehicle.
Steffen was transported to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department and Quimby Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
