Thursday, July 13, 2006

The Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada has awarded its most prestigious Spirituality Book Award of 2006 (soft cover category) to Sister Joyce Rupp OSM, formerly of Cherokee.

"Walk in a Relaxed Manner" (Orbis Books, Maryknoll, NY) tells Rupp's personal story of her pilgrimage along the famous 500 - mile Camino de Santiago in Spain. As she walks the same path of thousands before her, Rupp reflects on life itself , and our own personal journey.

"The Circle of Life" (Ave Maria Press, Notre Dame, Ind.), which she co-authored with Macrina Wiederkehr, tied for second place in the same category of competition.

With 16 books published and numerous foreign editions, Rupp is a very sought-after speaker throughout the world. "Walk in a Relaxed Manner," along with Sister Rupp's other books, cds and publications, can be ordered online at her website, www.joycerupp.com. This website contains monthly reflections, and also offers readers the opportunity to stay abreast of Rupp's latest works and her schedule for the upcoming year.

She resides in Des Moines, but is a native of Cherokee, and often speaks of her experiences growing up in Iowa when she is writing her books. Her brother, Dennis Rupp, still lives in Cherokee.
