CPD has new officer

Adam Roberts is the newest member of the Cherokee Police Department, joining the force on June 30.

"So far I've enjoyed it. It's an interesting job. I want to help people and help the community," Roberts said.

Roberts has been working construction at Screenbuilders and has been trying to get on the police force for a few years. His brother-in-law, Mike McGee, a police officer, got Roberts interested in becoming a police officer.

Roberts has lived in Cherokee County all of his life, but not in the same town. He was originally from Cherokee and moved to Aurelia where he graduated from high school in 1994.

He now resides in Marcus. His wife, Dawn, is a cosmetologist who owns here own business in Marcus, Total Eclipse.

They have three children, Sydney is 10, Jocee is 5 and Mason is 1.

"Dawn was pretty excited when I got the job on the police department and the kids were definitely excited," Roberts said.

He enjoys outdoor activities including golfing and he enjoys spending time with the family.

Roberts will attend the state police academy in January.
