The Meriden Fire Department is embarking on its annual fund-raiser by offering a variety of items for raffle sales. The department purchased five $300 certificates from a wide range of businesses.

According to Steve Liddle, the department thought they would provide $300 value certificates, one each for Jeff's Food in Marcus, Royer's Jewelry in Cherokee, Marcus Lumber in Marcus, Shell Food Mart in Quimby, Kingsley Furnishings in Kingsley.

The Meriden firefighters thought this was one way to pay merchants back for their support in the past and help them out as well.

The raffle tickets sell for $5 each or purchase four and get one free (five for $20).The drawing will be held September 17 at 1 p.m. at the firehouse. The tickets will be given out in the above order.

The department has been raising money for a new equipment van and they need a newer water truck. With those completed, the department should be updated in good fashion.
