The Aurelia Commercial Club is planning two fun weekends in August to celebrate the summer.
Things will get underway with the Relay for Life walk and festivities at Spring Lake Park in Cherokee on Friday evening August 4. For those who won't be walking all night, you're all invited to come over to Aurelia.
Studebaker's Restaurant will be providing "Evening Special" meals, beginning at 5 p.m.
There will be dances going on all night, with the group "Two and a Half" playing from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. on Main Street, weather permitting. If it does rain, the dance will still go on, but will be moved inside Woody's Tap, located on the South end of Main Street. The popular area group "100 Proof" takes over the music at 9 p.m., and will play until 1 a.m. For those who are still around at the end of the dance, and hungry for some good home cooking, the Aurelia Cafe will be hosting an "after hours" breakfast from 1:30 a.m.- 3 a.m.
Things get started again a few hours later, with a Barbecue Cook-Off at the Aurelia park from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. People are encouraged to get a team together to cook pork ribs and loins. Entry forms may be obtained from any Aurelia merchant. The entry fee is $30, and cash prizes will be awarded after the entries are judged at 4:30 p.m.
There will also be games and other entertainment for the kids going on in the park all day, and a car show at 3 p.m. Free refreshments will be available during these activities, and a supper will be catered by the Family Table from 5 - 7 p.m. in the park. Proceeds from the supper will go to the Relay for Life.
For those who would rather eat inside, Studebaker's will again be offering specials starting at 5 p.m.
"Rock & Roll Wrestling," featuring midget wrestlers in a steel cage match, will start at 8:30 p.m. at Woody's, and will be followed by another "weather permitting" street dance, featuring "Ghost Ship," starting at 9 p.m.
The Aurelia Cafe will again be providing a delicious "after hours" breakfast from 1:30 a.m.- 3 a.m.
After a week to recuperate, activities start up again on Friday August 11, when the McDermott Carnival will be operating rides on Main Street. Studebaker's again has specials from 5 p.m. on, and the performers at the street dance will be Cuz-n Eddy, from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. The Aurelia Cafe will again be serving breakfast from 1:30- 3 a.m.
On Saturday August 12, McDermott Shows will again be set up on Main Street, from 1 p.m. on. A tractor show also begins at 1 p.m., at the Aurelia park., and free refreshments will be available there.
Advance tickets for the McDermott rides are available at Aurelia businesses. Tickets cost $4.00 for 10 tickets, and each ride costs 3-4 tickets per ride.
There will also be a petting zoo at the park, ice cream at the Aurelia Cafe, and evening specials at Studebaker's from 5 p.m. on.
Come on over and enjoy the "Aurelia Dog Daze of Summer" on either (or both) weekends.
