The Promotion Team of the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce is asking you to help Light Up Your Hometown. The old holiday decorations will not be put up again this holiday season.

The promotion team is actively seeking donations to replace the Christmas lights on Main Street and the Highway 59 corridor. Main Street lighting will consist of lighted garland and two red bows per pole. The Highway 59 corridor will each sparkle with a large lighted snowflake.

With the help of citizens the promotions team hopes to accomplish this within two years. This will decorate the downtown area in 2006 and Hwy 59 in 2007.

This is a $25,000 project and to date $9,800 has been raised through donations and grant money.

Donations received to date will complete Main Street. Now they need your help to raise the additional funds to complete hwy 59. For more information call the chamber at 225-6414. You may mail or drop off your donations to Cherokee Chamber Lighting Fund, 416 W Main Cherokee, IA 51012. The group would be thankful for any and all donations which will help them reach their goal.
