AURELIA- It took all of six seconds for the Aurelia Bulldogs to score their first touchdown of the season here Friday night - and they didn't even receive the opening kickoff.

Their opponent, the Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders, fumbled the ball on their first play from scrimmage, and Bulldog tailback Mike White ran it in from 10 yards out on the 'Dogs first play from scrimmage to begin what turned out to be a 52-14 Aurelia win.

The Bulldogs had a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, and showed several different offensive weapons in building a 39-8 halftime lead. White scored two more touchdowns, on runs of 17 and 7 yards, fullback Gabe Fuller added a 4-yard TD run, and Quarterback Jared Bruce connected on a 64-yard touchdown pass to his brother Jacob. Fuller also nailed a 30-yard field goal.

Coach Myron Radke has been blessed with not just one, but two excellent place-kickers this season. Fuller's two kickoffs were not returned, as they went into the end zone, and so did most of Mike White's kicks. In fact, the Crusaders failed to return the first five kickoffs they received. On the sixth one, though, following Fuller's field goal with just six seconds remaining in the half, the visiting Crusaders made up for their previous lack of return yardage by returning the sixth kickoff 75 yards for their first touchdown as time expired in the half.

Fuller's 2-yard run produced the only score in quarter number three, but that touchdown, with 9:43 left, put the Bulldog lead at 45-8, which allowed the clock to continue running for the remainder of the game.

Alec Ohlson scored the 'Dogs' final touchdown of the night on a one-yard run with 3:28 remaining in the game. Once again, though, the Bulldogs had a late lapse, as with just 33 seconds remaining in the game, the Crusaders tallied on a 9-yard pass. Final score: Aurelia 52, Coon Rapids-Bayard 14.

The Bulldogs totaled 387 yards of total offense - 164 through the air, on 6-8 passing by Jared Bruce. Jacob Bruce had three receptions for 111 yards, White two receptions for 43 yards, and Angelo Mikos one for 10 yards.

The Bulldogs gained 223 yards on 37 rushing attempts. White had 63 yards on 12 rushes, Fuller 62 yards on nine rushes, and quarterback Bruce 61 yards on five attempts. Aurelia did not have to punt all night. There were 18 penalties called in the game - nine against each team.

Andrew Perry had 13 tackles to lead the Bulldog defense, while Fuller and Mike White added nine and eight, respectively. Drew Puhrmann also registered eight stops. Jared Bruce had a fumble recovery and Jacob Bruce an interception for the Bulldog defense.

The Bulldogs travel to Elk Horn-Kimballton for a final pre-district game Friday at Elk Horn. The following week, they will take on a tough Remsen-Union team for their Homecoming game.
