GRANVILLE - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn volleyball team won the Granville Spalding Tournament Saturday, defeating host Spalding Catholic 21-18, 21-14; falling 15-21, 12-21 to Aurelia; and beating Boyden-Hull 21-19, 21-15.
The Eagles returned to Granville Tuesday night in War Eagle Conference action and beat the Spartans again, 25-14, 25-13, 25-22.
In the Spalding tourney, Andrea Doeden led MMC in hitting with a 28-35 day and 11 kills. She was followed by Caitlin Johnson 23-29 and 14 kills, Rachel Mugge 19-23 and six kills, and Lara Letsche 17-19 and one kill.
Erica Kunzweiler paced the Eagles in assists with 79 in the match, while Kaylee Dreckman tallied 35. Kunzweiler also led MMC in serving with 26-26 and three aces, followed by Samantha Taylor 21-25 and six aces, and Doeden 15-17 and five aces.
Mugge had eight assist blocks, while Johnson totaled five solos and five assists. Taylor led in digs with 23, and Anna Klingenberg tallied 20.
Against Spalding Tuesday night, Johnson led the Eagles in hitting with a 17-23 effort and nine kills, followed by Doeden 12-12 and five kills, Mugge 10-12 and four kills, and Taylor 8-9 and five kills.
Kunzweiler again led her team in assists with 35, and Dreckman added 19. Taylor led in digs with 16, and Klingenberg totaled eight.
Johnson led MMC in serving with 21-22 and six aces, while Kunzweiler was 15-15, Taylor 12-12 and five aces, and Doeden 12-13 and three aces.
Letsche had five solos and eight block assists, while Johnson tallied five solos and one assist, and Mugge three solos and three assists.
