The Aurelia High School volleyball team competed in a triangular volleyball match at Alta last Tuesday, losing to the host Cyclones, 21-15, 21-17, and defeating the Storm Lake St. Mary's team, 21-11, 21-10. Kristine Munden had 10 kills for the Bulldogs, and Cassy Smith had seven. Smith and Emily Sonksen each had five blocks, and Christa Corderman, with 45 and Priscilla Otto with 42, led the team in sets.
The JV teams also competed, and Aurelia's JV lost to Alta, 21-15, 21-12, and beat St. Mary's 21-16, 21-12.
Two days later, the Bulldog girls faced St. Mary's again, in a Northwest Conference match at Storm Lake. Coach Tim Ireland said "it was a fun night. We won at all three levels (C, JV, and Varsity)."
Ireland was especially pleased that the Bulldogs were able to win an exciting, close game, referring to the second varsity game, where the score went back-and-forth, with Aurelia pulling out a 29-27 victory in the end. Aurlia's varsity won three straight games, by scores of 25-17, 29-27, and 25-18. Seniors Kristine Munden, with eight, and Cassy Smith, with seven, again led the team in kills. Munden also had two blocks and three digs, and Corderman and Otto again led in sets with 35 and 33, respectively.
The Bulldogs now sport a 6-8 overall mark and are 2-3 in conference play.
Aurelia's C team won 21-9, 21-18, 9-15, and the JV won 21-14, 17-21, 15-5.
Aurelia's next match is Tuesday night, a "jam the gym" match against Sac City.
