Benefit for McDermott

A soup supper to benefit the Jerry McDermott family will be held at the Cherokee Middle School on Sunday. Oct. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. At the conclusion, a drawing will be held to award the bench provided by R.J. Thomas Mfg.

The raffle was a joint effort by the Washington High School student council and the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Student Leadership Team. Jerry McDermott family is the P.E. teacher at Cherokee Middle School and his wife, Beth, is the Spanish teacher at Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn. Jerry McDermott was diagnosed with leukemia last March and in July received a stem cell transplant in Omaha.

A free will offering will be accepted at the soup supper where a choice of chili, chicken noodle and vegetable beef will be available. Rolls and dessert bars will also be served. There will be coffee and drinks provided by Chesterman Bottling Co. HyVee Food Store will provide bowls and spoons.

Volunteers will provide soup ingredients and labor so that all money donated will go to the fund raising effort. Raffle tickets will be available at the soup supper.
