Wolverines defeat Remsen St. Mary's, West Sioux

The South O'Brien Wolverines needed five games, but came through with an exciting 3-2 win over Remsen St. Mary's in War Eagle Conference volleyball action at Paullina Thursday evening.

On Tuesday, the Wolverines traveled to WEC foe West Sioux of Hawarden and came away with a 3-0 victory on game scores of 25-19, 25-8, 25-17.

Against St. Mary's, game scores were 25-21, 25-22, 17-25, 18-25, 15-11, as Coach Denise Erdmann's team moved their conference mark to 3-4, after a rough 1-10 non-conference schedule.

Jill Paulsen had 17 kills at the net to lead the Wolverines' hitting. Aphton Roberts had 36 digs for the match, and Bridgette Hain had 24.Chelsey and Reagan Ebel had 20 and 17 digs, respectively, and Carrie Egdorf also had 17. Chelsey Ebel's 16 assists led the team in that department.

Coach Erdmann said, "Tonight's match was a hard-fought battle. We made a lot of mental errors tonight, but we pulled it together in game five. Jill Paulsen had a big night hitting, and our defense did a good job of digging the ball."

"Our serving came through in game five. Remsen St. Mary's is a scrappy team, and kept the ball in play."

In the win at West Sioux, Roberts led SOS in serving with 15-15 and six aces, followed by Bridgette Hain, 14-14 and three aces, Paulsen 13-14 and five aces, Reagan Ebel 12-13 and two aces, Egdorf 10-11 and two aces, and Chelsey Ebel 10-11 and one ace.

Paulsen led in attacks with 19-23 and three kills, followed by Egdorf 17-22 and five kills, Kami Hetletvedt 13-15 and four kills, Chelsea Tesch 12-16 and three kills, and Lindsay magnussen 9-12 and three kills.

Roberts led in digs with 14, Egdorf totaled 13, and Reagan Ebel had seven. Chelsey Ebel led in assists with 15, and Roberts led in serve receptions with 17-19.

"Tonight we played well," said coach Erdmann. "We were consistent in all aspects of the game. Each player contributed something to tonight's win. I'm proud of the girls for their effort. We need to continue to play well these last few weeks and we did that tonight."

South O'Brien's next match is Thursday at Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.
