50 years of music ministry observed

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

On Sunday, Nov. 5, St. John Lutheran Church (402 Lake Avenue, Storm Lake) will honor long-time church musician Suzanne Winterhof.

A "Festival of Praise" is scheduled for the church sanctuary at 3 p.m., and will feature former students, the St. John Adult Choir, and an instrumental ensemble. A reception will follow.

Winterhof is being recognized for her 50 years of service to the music ministry at St. John. She is currently organist and adult choir director at the church. She began her work in the music ministry at the church while she was a student at Buena Vista College.

She also teaches music in the Aurelia school district, a position she has held since the fall of 1969. She also taught vocal music in the Quimby and Galva school districts. She is active in the American Guild of Organists, Iowa Music Teachers' Association, and National Federation of Music Teachers. She is frequently asked to judge district and state piano competitions.

When not involved in musical pursuits, Winterhof participates in 4-H judging, the Hanover Historical Society, and Thrivent activities. She and her husband Vernon are rural Aurelia residents.
