HARTLEY - The South O'Brien Wolverines played Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in Class 2A District Volleyball Tournament action Tuesday night.

The game featured schools representing five of the towns in the old Sioux Valley Conference, and the Hawks had to battle SOS to the end, winning in the maximum five games -16-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-11, 17-15 - to advance to the next round of the tournament.

Jill Paulsen had five kills at the net for the Wolverines offense, Chelsey Ebel had 13 assists, and Reagan and Chelsey Ebel had four and three ace serves, respectively. On defense, Aphton Roberts had 24 digs, Carrie Egdorf 23, and Reagan Ebel 22. Paulsen had five blocks and Lindsay Magnussen two.

SOS coach Denise Erdmann said her team "played really well in games one and two. In games three and four, we played tentative and weren't talking. When that happens we're not playing our best. We were down in game five and battled back

"Reagan Ebel had some big serves for us and got us to game point. We battled to the end."

Erdmann said that "HMS got the ball to the outside and was able to get it past our blocks. This was a tough one to lose, but we made them earn it!"

South O'Brien finishes the season with a 5-18 overall match mark. They were 4-5 in the tough War Eagle Conference.
