HOLSTEIN - Running on his home course, Galva-Holstein's Caleb Egger turned in a time of 17:10.25 to take third place at the Class 1A District Cross Country Meet here Thursday.

Egger's effort helped his Pirate team edge South O'Brien in the team standings. G-H scored 167 points, and SOS 168, for fifth place. Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn finished 15th in the team standings, with 508 points. Aurelia and River Valley runners also competed, but neither had enough runners to qualify for the team standings.

Area runners, with their places and times, include South O'Brien's Keagan Hicks (12th, 17:56.74), Andrew Peterson (14th, 17:59.82), Chris Permann (25th, 18:29.95), Reese Powers (46th,19:10.46), Trever Reddeer (71st, 19:50.61), and Jon Haden (75th, 19:59.81); Galva-Holstein's John Harris (16th, 8:10.85), AJ Stevenson (40th, 9:04.18), Kyle Conover (47th, 19:11.82), Nate Braselton (61st, 19:32.53),Steven Galvin (62nd, 19:34.32) and Andrew Galvin (63rd, 19:34.80) ; Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn's Tory Johnson (60th, 19:30.93), Tyler Brady (87th, 20:27.01), Tyrel Godbersen (118th, 22:20), Steven Lively (121st, 22:26), Jake Woods (122nd, 22:49), Derek Lewis (130th, 23:42), and David Peters (133rd, 24:50).

"The Eagles gave their best and saw what it takes to get to state," said MMC coach Ric Collins. "Miles next summer couuld get our young runners to reach higher goals."

Aurelia's Kyle Doherty finished 124th (time not reported).

The top three teams and top 10 individual runners earn a berth in the State Cross Country Meet Saturday in Fort Dodge.
