Egger's effort helped his Pirate team edge South O'Brien in the team standings. G-H scored 167 points, and SOS 168, for fifth place. Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn finished 15th in the team standings, with 508 points. Aurelia and River Valley runners also competed, but neither had enough runners to qualify for the team standings.

"The Eagles gave their best and saw what it takes to get to state," said MMC coach Ric Collins. "Miles next summer couuld get our young runners to reach higher goals."

The top three teams and top 10 individual runners earn a berth in the State Cross Country Meet Saturday in Fort Dodge.
