The Century Farms Program was initiated by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship in conjunction with the Iowa Farm Bureau in 1976 to honor farm families who have owned the same farm for 100 years or more.

Secretary Judge stated, "The Century Farms program acknowledges farm families by honoring century-long owner ship and stewardship of Iowa farmland, and recognizes the sense of responsibility that comes from working the land. The program honors a 'way of life' which has enriched our communities, our state and our country. It provides a unique understanding of Iowa's past while giving insight on how agriculture will continue to play a major role in our state's exciting and productive future."

The Century Farm Program has certified 15,598 farms since 1976. For an application for the Century Awards Program, persons may contact Janet Lee, Century Farms Coordinator, at 515-281-5323. An application may also be obtained from our website at www.agriculture.state.ia.us
