The Kathy Cosgrove Green and Michael Cosgrove family farm near Mariden, the Robert Harwig family farm near Cherokee and the Robert and Lorraine Mortenson family farm near Cherokee were honored at the 2006 Century Farm Awards ceremonies. Members of the Harwig and Mortenson families were on hand for the ceremony.
There were 325 families honored. Presenting the 2006 awards were Iowa Agriculture Secretary Patty Judge, Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Lang and Vice President of the Iowa Farm Bureau, Craig Hill. Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Brent Halling served as Master of Ceremonies for the event.
Secretary Judge stated, "The Century Farms program acknowledges farm families by honoring century-long owner ship and stewardship of Iowa farmland, and recognizes the sense of responsibility that comes from working the land. The program honors a 'way of life' which has enriched our communities, our state and our country. It provides a unique understanding of Iowa's past while giving insight on how agriculture will continue to play a major role in our state's exciting and productive future."
