Pirates' volleyball team meets WLVA, winner to state
ORANGE CITY - Galva-Holstein's Lady Pirates defeated George-Little Rock in four games in a Class 1A Regional Semi-Final volleyball match here on Thursday night, winning by game scores of 25-16, 14-25, 25-9, 25-19.
With the win, coach Scott Mitchell's team moves on to the Regional Final at Ida Grove on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
As Mitchell said , "The games don't get any easier," noting that the Lady Pirates' next opponent will be #2 ranked Wall Lake View-Auburn (28-1).
Mitchell felt that his team "blocked very well (in Thursday's game) after we made adjustments in our blocking scheme." He noted also that G-H "went through a stretch of serve receive problems" in game two, but those problems were eventually righted.
Mitchell felt that Galva-Holstein' s own serving really kept Rock Valley off balance and out of their offense. Galva-Holstein's girls got 93 of their 95 serves in, including 15 aces, eight of them by Natalie Buell.
In other offensive categories, Lanae Broesder and Dani Boyle led the team in assists with 11 and 16, respectively; Lindsey Joslin had eight kills, Clare Cosgrove seven, and Heather Joslin six to lead G-H hittng; and Sam Grayson and Brandi Wagoner added four kills each.
On defense, Grayson, Wagoner, and Cosgrove had six, four, and four blocks, respectively, and Lindsey Joslin (16), Heather Joslin (13), Boyle (12) and Grayson (11) contributed to the team's 79 digs.
Galva-Holstein takes a 24-16 season mark into Tuesday night's match against Wall Lake View-Auburn at Ida Grove.
