A good turnout

Thursday, November 16, 2006

Over 50 percent of registered Cherokee County voters went to the polls on Tuesday, an impressive turnout for a non-presidential election year.

County voters are to be commended for their high level of participation in the Democratic process.

At the county level there were only two contested races, the board of supervisors district 3 contest and the board of supervisors district 4 contest.

We commend all of the candidates Jeff Simonsen, Donald Parrott, Mark Leeds and Jack Clark for the concern and courage needed to put themselves forth to take on an important responsibility.

Government at the local level operates more effectively and has a more direct impact on the every day lives of citizens than government at the state or national level.

The residents of Cherokee County have reason to be proud of their efforts on Nov. 7.
