Lady Pirates celebrate VB season

HOLSTEIN - The 2006 volleyball season was successful and exciting for the Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates. They won the River Valley tournament, and were also District champions. The season ended with a loss in the Regional finals against #2 Wall Lake View Auburn.

The varsity squad finished its season with a 24-17 match record, and the junior varsity was 12-9. The freshman squad posted an impressive 20-3 mark.

Eleven girls earned letters for the Lady Pirates this year, including seniors Dani Boyle, Sam Grayson, Clare Cosgrove, Amanda McGuire, and Natalie Buell; junior Allie Wagoner; sophomores Lanae Broesder, Lindsey Joslin, Heather Joslin, and Brandi Wagoner; and freshman Ashley Buell.

Heather Joslin was chosen to the second team of the All-Maple Valley Conference squad, and Lindsey Joslin was given Honorable Mention. Victoria Andresen was named the Most Improved Player, and Dani Boyle the Most Valuable.

The group of senior players finished their high school careers with an overall varsity match record of 129-46, and many players moved into the school's top 10 in season and/or career records.

Seasonal team leaders were Heather Joslin with 248 kills, followed by Lindsey Joslin (224), Sam Grayson (186), Brandi Wagoner (159), and Clare Cosgrove (107); Grayson, with 100 blocks, followed by Wagoner with 74, Cosgrove with 52, and Dani Boyle with 31; Boyle served 96.1% for the season, Natalie Buell 96.1; Broesder 95.4; McGuire 95.0; and Heather Joslin 92.4. Lindsey Joslin had 429 digs to lead the team, followed by Heather Joslin, 387; Boyle 296; Grayson 248, and Natalie Buell 157. Heather and Lindsey Joslin paced the team in ace serves with 63 and 53, respectively; Boyle had 38, Broesder 36, and Buell 35. Boyle and Broesder led the team in assists throughout the year, and finished with season totals of 493 (Boyle) and 369 (Broesder).
