CORRECTIONVILLE- The River Valley Wolverines played their season opening basketball game here Monday night against the potent Hinton Blackhawks.
The Wolverines were never really in this game, trailing at the quarters 17-7, 37-15 and 51-18. They outscored the Blackhawks by one point in the final period, making the final score 67-35, Hinton.
River Valley coach Dean Norris's squad, which is battling injuries and youth, turned the ball over 19 times in the game. To his team's credit, though, said Norris, "the kids played hard from start to finish, and I really believe that we will be a basketball team that will improve as the season goes on."
RV scoring was paced by Ethan Todd with 13 points. Anthony Volkert grabbed 10 rebounds, and Pat Parcels dished out four assists for the Wolverines, who played Lawton-Bronson here Tuesday night, and will entertain the Maple Valley-Anthon Oto teams on Friday.
