NEWELL- Aurelia Coach Marv Munden said he was pleased that the girls' varsity team played "extremely hard from start to finish" in their Northwest Conference game here Friday night against the always-tough Newell-Fonda Mustangs. The Bulldog girls connected on 15 of 32 shots from the field (46.8%), 10 of 19 from the line (52.6%), and Tiffany Johnson made the team's only three-point attempt. Kristine Munden scored 20 points to lead Bulldog scoring, and Emily Sonksen added nine. Johnson and Leah Kai scored five points each. Kai also had four steals on defense, and Sonksen dished out seven assists from her point guard position.
Munden was disappointed in some of the team's ball-handling. "We need to take better care of the ball and eliminate some of our turnovers," said the veteran coach, alluding to the team's 23 turnovers in the game.
The Bulldog girls will head to long-time rival Alta on Tuesday night in a Northwest Conference matchup.
