Norene "Kay" Tewes, 70, of rural Larrabee, died Dec. 1, 2006 in the Spencer Hospital with her family at her side.
Funeral services were held, Dec. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden. Pastor Clint Hogrefe officiated. Burial was in the O'Brien Liberty Cemetery at Calumet.
There was a family prayer service Dec. 5 at 10:15 a.m. at the Church. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, the family was present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. There was also a prayer service at 7:30 a.m. on the evening of Dec. 4 at the funeral home.
Tewes was born Dec. 21, 1935 in Cherokee, to Ernest "Slim" Mugge and Clara (Kopp) Mugge. She graduated from Calumet High School in 1953. She received her teaching certificate from Morningside College in Sioux City. She was married to Roger Tewes on Aug. 23, 1957 at Worthington, Minn.
She had lived in the rural Larrabee area all her life. She was a grade school teacher for a few years and later worked for Jeanne's Boutique and Fashionette for 17 years. She was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church.
She enjoyed doing cross stitching, spending time with her grandkids, crossword puzzles and flower gardening. She also loved making beaded bookmarkers and sharing them with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Steven.
She is survived by her husband, Roger and three daughters: Lynette Mummert and her husband Tom of Larrabee; Roxanne Crew and her husband Jeff of Spencer; Diane Kiepe and her husband Terry of Spencer; 7 grandchildren: Mike & Linda Mummert, Breanne & Paul Richter; Jennifer, Mike and Steven Crew; Katie and Lexi Kiepe; 3 great grandchildren: Adam, Simon and Hanna; two sisters: Janet McFarlane and her husband John of Sioux City; Marge Mugge of Sioux City.
