MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagles, led by Tim Holmes' 29 points, rallied in the fourth quarter here on Tuesday night to defeat the Granville Spalding Spartans in War Eagle Conference basketball action, 59-48.
The Eagles held a one-point lead at the first quarter break, 13-12, but the Spartans led 30-22 at the half, and still held the lead at 41-37 going into the final quarter.
MMC coach Al Vasher said the Eagles "played a really strong second half. The boys came out after halftime and really turned up the defensive pressure. Our guards played well together, and our posts did a much better job of rebounding."
Brandon Brady scored 10 points for the Eagles, and also had six steals on defense. Holmes, in addition to his big scoring night, also paced Eagle rebounders with eight boards, and dished out five assists. Nate Dammann had seven rebounds for the Eagles, who won for the first time this season after two losses.
Spalding was led by Andrew Jungers , with 14 points and seven rebounds. Alex Jungers had 12 points and Nick Kreber 11.
MMC has a game at Lawton-Bronson tonight, then comes home to play Hinton on Friday night.
