Two have consecutive accidents, one is fatal

Wednesday, December 20, 2006

Two vehicles had accidents on the hill east of Cherokee (530th Street) on Sunday morning December 10th, in about the same location, just minutes apart. The second resulted in a fatality, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department.

At about 6:55 a.m., the sheriff's department responded to a call concerning a vehicle driven by David A. Klee, 56, Cherokee, who lost control of the vehicle on a patch of ice and rolled the vehicle.

The vehicle received extensive damage. Klee sought his own medical treatment.

The Cherokee Police Department and the Cherokee Fire Department responded to the call.

A CPD patrol car returned to the scene a few minutes later and saw that another vehicle was involved in an accident at the scene. The sheriff's department, the fire department and the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Ambulance were called to the scene.

Thomas Lee Cates, 50, Cherokee, was transported to the hospital in Cherokee and subsequently life-flighted to Sioux City where he was pronounced dead.
