On Monday, December 11th, Valley Bank and Trust opened a second bank in Cherokee County along Highway 143 on the south edge of Marcus.

It is a full service bank which provides a number of banking services in addition to checking and savings accounts.

The bank provides CDs at competitive rates, all types of loan services such as ag, commercial, real estate and personal, crop insurance, real estate services (it is a branch of Northwest Realty), and trust services. The bank will change currency for those traveling abroad, and the bank also has a convenient drive-up window.

Senior Vice President Carl Nelson, Brenda Werthman and Pearl Henke, all residents of Marcus, are the personnel who will assist patrons. Nelson has 18 years of banking experience, Werthman 20 years and Henke has a couple of years. All are community- minded and very supportive of community activities. Each look forward to serving the Marcus area.

The bank building has a good- sized lobby, with teller service, offices for private discussions, and a large board room that may be used by the community.

"We are very happy to have this site open and invite everyone to stop in and see our new facility. You do not have to be a customer to stop in for a chat and refreshments while seeing this beautiful building. On Fridays, all day long during December, we will be serving coffee and homemade cookies. We are planning an open house in January. The three of us are looking forward to assisting growth in Marcus and being a part of the new business park. Stop in and say hello," said Nelson.
