The Iowa Chamber Alliance wants another fund for community revitalization, besides the Vision Iowa program.
The proposed Destination Attraction Fund would differ from the existing Vision Iowa program in that the existing program has a $20 million cap while the proposed program has no cap.
Some have speculated that the new fund with its absence of a spending cap was designed specifically for Earthpark, a proposed rain forest arboretum near Pella, with an estimated cost of $150 million.
We so not need another organization with another set of rules and another board to do what is already being done. If the promoters of some project like Earthpark, believe their project deserves funding well above the existing cap, there is another alternative.
The promoters could go directly to the state legislature. A project that seeks massive state support deserves full and open debate.
