Wednesday, December 20, 2006

A new sports lounge has opened on North Main Street in Aurelia, in the building directly north of C.A.R.S. The building previously housed the town grocery store, and was sold by Stan and Pat Peterson to Jake Schutt .Schutt, a former Cherokee resident, works for Bonneson Plumbing, and has lived in Aurelia for a year-and-a-half.

Since he purchased the former grocery store, Schutt has remodeled the store into a sports lounge, with two pool tables, a foosball table,an Internet jukebox, arcade games, and two televisions (with a large projection screen in the plans). There are also plenty of tables at which customers can play cards, solve world problems, and eat pizza.

"Jake's Sports Lounge" opened on November 21, and has been busy ever since. Schutt says the lounge has had a pretty wide age-range of customers thus far.

The business opens at noon, and the afore-mentioned (frozen) pizzas are available, as well as sodas, and "adult beverages" from a fully-stocked bar. Jake's is open from noon until closing Monday through Saturday , and 2 p.m. until closing on Sundays. Jake's has eight bartenders (no, they don't all work at the same time!) - Tori Kraft, Doug Buckendahl, Jessica Kannegieter, Ivy Sivinski, Mitch and Kristi Langschwager, Kelly Smith, and Jay Fordyce. Owner Schutt takes his turn behind the bar, too.

Jake's will have a Grand Opening celebration on Saturday December 23, featuring drink specials.
