Miller, Terry lead victorious G-H boys' scoring
HOLSTEIN - The young Lady Pirates of Galva-Holstein were down by just two points, 11-9, after one quarter in Maple Valley Conference girls basketball action here on Friday, but were unable to sustain the effort, as the Lawton-Bronson Eagles outscored them 14-4 in the second period and 22-8 in the third, on the way to a 63-30 win.
The Lady Pirates did not have any players reaching double figures in scoring, as Alyssa Martin and Sam Grayson shared team scoring honors with seven points apiece. The Lady Pirates committed 24 turnovers and had 15 of their passes stolen and four shots blocked by Lawton-Bronson.
In the second game Friday night, the Pirates of coach Bob Lee downed the Eagle boys, 61-41. Elijah Miller scored 18 points, and also had six rebounds, four steals, and five assists for Galva-Holstein.
Adrian Terry added 16 points, one steal and five assists, and Ben Andresen "played a very good game defensively," said coach Lee, "limiting their center to just six points." Andresen scored 10 himself, and also grabbed 10 rebounds. Galva-Holstein shot 53 percent from the field.
Mason Anfinson, with 11 points, and Aaron Peterson, with 10, led the L-B scoring.
Coach Lee said, "We did a nice job of identifying Lawton-Bronson's changing defenses. It was a close game and a hard-fought battle. We did a good job of playing together and finished the game strong."
The Pirate teams entertain Schaller-Crestland Friday in non-conference action.
